A certain deadly assassin is slicing, dicing and golf clubbing his way PC-wards in a couple of months. In a first for the series the Hitman reboot is going to be entirely episodic, Telltale-style, with each month's content drop bringing with it a new map and multiple contracts to perform on each. To keep that garotting fresh, Agent 47 will be a true globetrotter, taking in locales as far-reaching as Thailand, Italy, Paris, and Morocco.

The big draw here for Hitman 2016 though, is that developer Io Interactive is shying away from the smaller set-piece levels of Hitman Absolution. Instead it's opting for gigantic levels, filled with hundreds of non-player characters and potentially dozens of unique ways in which to perform hits. Cramming in mountains of AI characters, each with individual behaviours and movement patterns, obviously comes at quite a cost, so be sure to check out the official Hitman system requirements before picking up episode one...

First impressions of these system requirements are that they're pretty massive, and you'd be right. There's no doubting that the Hitman reboot is a demanding game. In terms of what it's attempting to do here it could be quite a bold step for larger-scale levels / smaller open worlds, and can truly turn them into sandboxes. Killing sandboxes admittedly, but sandboxes all the same.

The most demanding element looks to be the processor, which is going to need to be able to handle many simultaneous tasks in order to cope with large crowd numbers. That's why we're seeing a pair of beasts like the Intel Core i7-3770 and AMD FX-8350 being recommended. You can get away with a fair bit less for minimum specs, but it's looking likely Hitman is really going to put any CPU to the test.

Graphics cards are quite a bit more reasonable. In truth, what we've seen of Hitman so far isn't a visual masterpiece, but it does look fairly decent. There's some flexibility here, so you can just about get away with a GeForce GTX 660 or Radeon HD 7870, but anything on top of this is just a bonus for how good Hitman looks and performs.
One other thing to highlight is the 8GB minimum RAM requirement. This seems lofty but we've already seen a few games use this much, and certainly 4GB is rarely enough for AAA titles these days. There's every chance you might be able to scrape it with 6GB, but 8GB should be seen as a reliable minimum in a gaming rig these days.
Lastly there's no mention of DirectX 12 support. Square Enix is hosting a panel on DX12 use in Hitman at GDC, so this might be coming as post-launch update. Luckily any DX11-capable GPU is also compatible with DirectX 12, so all you'll need to do to take advantage of this if it does happen is have Windows 10 installed.
