Ubisoft Confirms That Beyond Good And Evil 2 Is On The Cards
Beyond Good and Evil 2 is one of those games that seems to be perpetually rumoured to be in development but never quite confirmed. Like The Last Guardian or Half Life 3, its existence has caused a fair amount of rumour and speculation over the years
.
Now, however, it seems the project is happening, as Ubisoft finally confirms that a sequel to Beyond Good & Evil is on the cards for the future. The new information came to light after creator Michel Ancel - who also created Rayman - announced he has created his own independent development company. In addition to running this new team - Wild Sheep Studio - Ancel will remain with Ubisoft Montpellier to work on Beyond Good & Evil 2.
In spite of concept art and trailers having trickled out sporadically over the last few years, it doesn’t seem the game is particularly far into development. According to Ubisoft, it is still “far too early” to reveal further details, but the team at Ubisoft Montpellier is working “with the core tenets of Beyond Good & Evil” in order to push the boundaries of next gen and create something innovative.
The project was also described as “extremely ambitious”, which explains both Ubisoft and Ancel’s reluctance to discuss the project in more detail. Whilst Beyond Good & Evil 2 does now officially seem to be happening, the project has been shelved for so long that we wouldn’t expect to see a product ready for launch before around 2016. Still, Beyond Good & Evil was a brilliant game, and with Ubisoft Montpellier’s sterling recent record creating the likes of Rayman Legends, it’s certainly exciting to hear more of this next-gen project.
